Free Expressive Art Workshop for High School Teens — Creative Heart!

Attention students! Adoption Rhode Island is hosting a free 6-part Expressive Art Workshop Series called Creative Heart — High School Age, designed to help teens build strong, positive relationships through art! All you need is an interest in art, a desire to hang out with new friends, and a willingness to explore your creative side. Snacks will be provided!

The series runs July 22nd through August 26th from 5:30–7:00 PM at the Adoption Rhode Island Providence office. All potential participants will be asked to complete a brief screening with the group facilitator to ensure it is a good fit. The workshops are led by Emily Natale, LMHC, ATR-BC — a Board Certified Art Therapist, Licensed Mental Health Counselor, and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional.

Interested in trying out for a Fall sport: Football,  Boys or Girls Soccer, Girls Volleyball, Girls Tennis or Cheerleading?

Tryouts begin Monday August 17th for all fall sports. You will need to complete an Electronic Sports Registration and have a physical (Physicals are good for one year).  Scan the QR code on the posters outside/inside the main office or go on riil.org

If you played a sport this year you would just have to update your physical and choose your sport.

Celebrating Puerto Rican Culture — Free Community Events!

The Cultural Heritage Center at 1005 Main Street in Pawtucket is hosting a series of free events celebrating Puerto Rican culture as part of La Pequeña Sanse de Rhode Island 2026 — and we want to make sure our Central community knows about it!

Here is what is coming up:

🎬 June 25 at 6 PM — Grand Premiere of the documentary "Las Leyendas de Bomba" (The Legends of Bomba) right at the Cultural Heritage Center. Come witness this incredible film celebrating the history and legacy of Bomba!

💃 June 26, 6–8 PM — Bomba Boot Camp with Daniella Hernandez! Come learn how to dance Bomba with one of the most experienced Bomba dancers around. All are welcome!

🎉 June 27, Noon–4 PM — Carnaval! Featuring a Parade Procession at 1 PM. Free cotton candy, popcorn, snow cones, and ice cream at Chokito Corner! Kids are very welcome!

Parking is available at 200 Esten Ave. behind the Village Lofts. All events are FREE and open to the community. Come celebrate!

AI & Data Science Camp @ Bryant University

AI & Data Science Camp @ Bryant University is a one-week enrichment program open to all high school–aged students, from rising freshmen through rising seniors. The camp introduces students to the fields of artificial intelligence, data science, and data visualization through engaging, hands-on experiences.

During the week, students will immerse themselves in the exciting world of technology through interactive activities designed to foster creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking. Campers explore data visualization, analytics, and generative AI, including experiences with humanoid robots, VR headsets and exploration of turning ideas into concept alongside Bryant Universities Makers Space.

The camp will conclude with a celebratory showcase where guardians are invited to attend student presentations. The final day will also include a panel discussion titled “Career Opportunities and Educational Pathways for AI and DS” featuring leaders from academia and industry, offering students and families valuable perspectives on educational trajectories and career possibilities within the technology sector.

Program cost: $200* enrollment fee (due upon acceptance to program). *A limited number of need-based full and partial tuition scholarships are available.

Apply for the RI Teen Institute – April 2026

The YEP (Young Entrepreneurs Program) Summer Program is a completely FREE, 5 day long program for high school students in Providence hosted by Brown University. By learning from guests speakers, workshops with Brown University mentors, and our entrepreneurship curriculum, students will develop their own business ideas that matter to them, building problem solving and public speaking skills along the way! At the end of the program, every student will be able to pitch their business idea to customers.

No entrepreneurship experience is required or expected — We are hoping to find students from all different backgrounds and interests!

This summer, we are offering two different programs: Design/Build Studio and Creative Change Studio.

Ground Work Rhode Island runs the Ring Street Community Garden in Providence’s Federal Hill neighborhood and the Prairie Avenue Greenhouse in South Providence.

We are currently building the West End Compost Hub on the border of the West End/Elmwood neighborhoods.

Generation Teach Summer Teaching Fellowship
High-school juniors and seniors, we encourage you to apply to the Generation Teach Summer Teaching Fellowship.

The fellowship includes an amazing summer of fun, learning, teaching, and creating community. Fellows receive a $3,000 taxable cash scholarship and over 275 hours of teaching and leadership experience.

Deadlines are the 15th of each month through April 15.

Students will have the opportunity to work closely with Bryant University faculty during an immersive, five day, in-person experience.

By the end of the program, students will have learned both basic and advanced economic concepts and have the ability to analyze current policy issues.

All students who complete the program will receive a Certificate of Completion from the Bryant University Economics Department.

The program will run from 9:00am to 3:00pm, August 3^th through August 7^th.  This is an in-person program.

Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from campus each day.  However, all materials and lunch will be included in the cost of tuition.

The entire program costs $600 and there is no application fee.

RIDE Announces Free Summer Meals Statewide

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Governor Dan McKee, Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green and the Rhode Island Department of Education today announced that the annual Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) will be underway in the coming weeks in communities across the state, where free meals will be served to Rhode Island students during the summer months. 

There are no registration or income requirements needed to participate in the SFSP program. The program ensures that any child age 18 years and under has access to nutritious meals and snacks during summer vacation while school is not in session. For more information on summer meal sites near you, including locations and serving times, contact the United Way by dialing 2-1-1. 

Summer Meal Kickoff, learn more about summer meals and have a day of fun with your family. There is no cost to attend.
